College Graduates

2009 College Graduates

Is the glass half full or half empty. Over 91% of the people of the workforce in the United States are employed (8.9% are unemployed). If you listen to nightly news you would think half the workforce is unemployed. Companies are hiring, however they are very selective.

Monster, CareerBuilder, Hotjobs, And Dice all have sections for Recent Graduates listing jobs.

Cities where companies are Hiring Now: Austin TX, Seattle, WA, Houston TX (job growth 2.3% this year), Washington DC, Portsmouth NH (unemployment rate 3.9%) , Des Moines, IA .

These cities have less than half the national average unemployment rate.

Recent graduates might want to consider International Opportunities i.e. British Columbia, Canada with unemployment 4.8% job growth 1.5%, Mumbai, India , Shanghai, China are two other top growth cities with projected high growth in 2009, plus the added bonus of 30-40% higher salaries above U.S. based salary.

Note - 8.9% unemployment figure was obtained from an official U.S. Government website site. The truth is out there, unfortunately 8.9% isn't it. Still there are a lot of people working somewhere between 85% to 90% of the U.S. workforce is currently employed. Don't believe it, well check the freeways and main roads used for commute during peak rush hours. Bumper to bumper with traffic.
